My Favorite Age
Sometimes its easy for mommas to feel a little sad that little ones are getting older. When I feel that way, I’ve just got to remember that what’s going on RIGHT NOW with my kids is the real joy, the real blessing . . .not what they used to do and used to be like. So in honor of enjoying my kids RIGHT NOW . . .
My favorite age for Juliet has to be AGE ONE. She’s learning new words all the time, but besides that, she has this whole little language that she uses to talk to us. “Pickle tickle gibba dooba dubba yamma?” Is that so, Juliet? “Pickle tickle gibba dooba!”
The girl was born to dance. If she hears some music, she is moving to the beat!
It’s so much fun to watch her play. And she plays with everything: boxes, baby dolls, dinosaurs, the broom in the kitchen . . . all fun toys!
Her snuggles and smiles make me grin from ear to ear.
My favorite age for Aidan has to be AGE FOUR. He still has a couple of speech glitches that make some things he says pretty funny. He can’t say the hard c, or k sound and most of the time he subs in a ‘t’ sound. So a ‘car’ is a ‘tar’ or ‘kiss’ is a ’tiss.’ Recently I overheard . . . “Ju Ju, you are stintin’ toot!” (stinkin’ cute!)
I love that when he plays by himself he still plays out loud, so I can catch those little glimpses into his mind.
I love that although he plays HARD and sweats like a monster, he still loves to gives hugs and sugars to his mommy.
I love that it takes him exactly 30 seconds to fall asleep at night and that his favorite thing to do first thing in the morning is to snuggle up on the couch with Momma.
I love that he is always discovering new things that God is bigger than. “God is bigger than that train!” “God is bigger than 100 pounds!”
I love that when he is counting to 100 sometimes he says things like, “38, 39, 30 -10, 30-11, . . . ”
My favorite age for AnnaBeth has to be AGE SIX. She is becoming quite the reader. I love that she can snuggle up next to me and we can read together . . . she’ll read one page, and then I’ll read the next, and so on. I love to listen to her sound out words. Unloading groceries the other day she exclaimed, “MOM! This box says that these are HONEY GRAHAMS!” Yes, Anna Beth, that’s what it says. “So why do you call them GRAHAM CRACKERS?” Ha! Good question!
I love finding love notes from her on my pillow when I go to bed.
I love finding out that she’s a favorite among her friends. I’m hoping that means that she is kindhearted to all!
I love that she’s a little math whiz.
I love that she doesn’t want any help when looking up Bible verses and that she’s reading the Word of God on her own! I love that she listens in church and asks questions about what she’s heard.
My favorite age for Raegan has to be AGE EIGHT. I love that she is eager and willing to do her chores and that (most of the time) she does them with a happy heart. I love that she is excited to learn to cook and sew and clean and do laundry.
I love that she loves spending time with Momma, even if it only means a quick trip to Walmart together.
I love that she is so responsible with her glasses. So much so that she’s gotten to get some nicer ones this time around. (Aren’t they cute?!)
I love that she is such a good student and loves school. I love that she loves to READ, READ, and READ. I love that she’s a loyal and kind friend.
I love that she is stealing my shoes — I still can’t believe that her feet are almost as big as mine!
I love listening to her voice sing out strong in church as she worships. And I love that I get to take communion each week with my little sister in Christ.
May I remember to treasure these days!
As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him. The LORD has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all. (from Psalm 103)
